Little in the galaxy
is feared more than the roar of the TIE Fighter's twin ion engines.Designed
to replace the RFS TIE Fighter, and originally designated the "Interceptor",
the TIE/ln is now the standard TIE Fighter model carried by Imperial
warships and deployed at flash points around the galaxy. They take
the brunt of Rebel fire in deep-space battles and serve to ward
off enemy starfighters, freeing the Star Destroyers or other Imperial
cruisers to concentrate firepower on Rebel starships and larger
military targets. The TIE/ln differs from the original TIE Space
Superiority Fighter model in that its engines are 20% more powerful,
its double laser cannons replace the TIE Fighter's single laser
cannon, and the hull plates are of a darker hue.
The first of Sienar's
TIE series was produced around the time of the rise of the Empire.
Like other TIEs, the TIE/ln is built exclusively with Sienar Fleet
Systems components. The TIE Front Line Fighter can perform any number
of short-range tasks, from fleet escort to space patrol to dogfighting.
Recent advances in Rebel technology have rendered starfighters with
a slight advantage over the TIE Fighter, which is shieldless and
does not have the weapon capacity of the Rebel ships. However, this
small disadvantage is remedied by sheer numbers and the skill of
our pilots.
An upgraded model
of the TIE/ln, the TIE/ln+, featured the parts and components of
a TIE Interceptor.
