Based on the earlier successes of the CC-7700 series, CEC built a cruiser more thoroughly armed and armored for the rigors of battle. The CC-9600 was designed for direct combat with other starships, and for this purpose was fitted with upgraded weaponry and shielding, and enough cargo and passenger space to transport two full regiments of troops.
