Another starfighter
created by Hoersh-Kessel, the T-Wing is another weak, outdated vessel
by today's standards. It is faster and only slightly more maneuverable
than its cousin, the R-41 Starchaser, but its shields are a pathetic
20SBD in strength. The T-Wing lacks the ion cannons of the R-41,
but the standard T-Wing carries a warhead payload, whereas such
weaponry is an option on the R-41.
A starfighter developed
by the Alliance during the Galactic Civil War, the T-Wing never
gained much acceptance among pilots. It was a fast craft, but was
only armed with 2 laser cannons, and was equipped with weak shielding
- 20 SBD primary shields and a hull rated at 15 RU. It was a three-winged
ship, with one engine mounted on each wingtip. It was a 10-meter-long
ship with a top speed of about 110 MGLT.
The T-wing was originally
designed to replace the A-wing in its role as an interceptor. Unfortunately
for the pathetic Rebellion, the end result turned out to be worse.
The T-wing can be summed up as a poor man's A-wing. Like the A-wing,
the T-wing is a very fragile fighter. With shields and hull similar
to that of a Z-95 Headhunter's, this craft can not be expected to
last long if it is hit by a single devastating blow. Ship's speed
is just above that of a TIE Interceptor but slower than the A-wing.
Weapons are light with only dual laser cannons. However, the warhead
load is equal to that of an X-wing making it a good multi-role fighter.
The Rebels only used this fighter for a short time on the frontline
and eventually decided to sell it to neutrals hoping to gain a profit.
The T-wing quickly proliferated across the galaxy ending up in the
hands of many pirate factions and neutral powers. It proved very
effective in the hands of the pirate leader Taarak. This fighter
was first roughly produced around the time the Magnetic Pulse Torpedo
was invented. It continues to be used by neutral factions.
